Case Study

Lee joined Moorland Plastics Barnsley in 1984 as a Factory Operative. He has worked in a variety of areas at MPB including packing and assembly and on the automatic machines. After almost 20 years in his job, and seeing the new opportunities that the Workstep Programme had to offer, Lee decided that it was time for a change of employment. He approached the on-site Workstep co-ordinator who discussed his occupational requirements with him, and laid out his options including the pros and con's of moving into another occupational area.

Lee is friendly and outgoing and was very interested in Call Centre work. After his Workstep co-ordinator sourced a vacancy with Ventura, Lee went along for an aptitude test and was then invited for an interview. The Workstep co-ordinator was involved with the recruitment process and arranged a placement for Lee who was then able to try out the job for three months whilst still being funded through the Workstep programme. Ventura was very happy with Lee's performance, and during his placement they offered him a permanent position with the company.

Lee has now been employed by Ventura beyond the initial six months. So although Workstep no longer funds him his co-ordinator will continue to support him as and when necessary, through pre-arranged appointments. Lee really enjoys his new job and says that it is a new beginning for him.
